I finished up the placemats that I made for the LAMQG holiday swap. Chris got them last night and she loved them! She had asked for something for her kitchen with blues, neutrals and a vaguely beachy vibe.
They are so simple and quick to sew up. I used linen for the background fabric, Konas Teal and Coal and the light blue is a Moda Crossweave.
Corners!
The simple dense straight line quilting makes them lie nice and flat.
I'll post a little pattern for these later this week. They would make a great Christmas gift for a friend!
I'm working on my holiday swap for the LAMQG meeting on Monday evening. We all picked names so we're making something for a specific person. It really makes for a great swap when you know the recipient...

I knit socks! Cozy pretty socks that fit really well. This was my first time knitting socks and it won't be my last.

Yes! A space quilt! A while back, the designer for Etsy's amazing space themed conference room got in touch. Would I like to make a space quilt to be hung in the room? Needless to say, this was a daunting task. But I love a challenge so I took it on. How to make a quilt that is a glimpse of "space" (as in outer space - this was not a theoretical space...it had to be outer space) yet also keep my aesthetic? It was no easy task!
Think I managed ok? Stars or spaceships?? It's up to you! I was thinking stars (you know - like streaking by 'cause you're at warp speed, right??) but my husband though spaceships so I figured that's part of the idea - interpret it as you'd like.
And white binding! Not something I've otherwise done but I thought it worked well to frame the dark blues and blacks... I used a lot of Quilters Linen in this. Thought that it was nice for add texture but not a patterned fabric.

Katie, a friend from The LAMQG is having a baby girl! I made her this cute simple quilt.
Nice and pink but some green mixed in!
I did some fun and easy curly quilting. I really like this simple and whimsical quilting for a baby quilt. Keeps it nice and soft.
And a simple back - I do love those Wildwood trees!
It's been just over two months since the Action Kivu sewing workshop fundraiser that I held right here on my blog. I'm sure you all remember that we raised $10,510!! So impressive! We are lucky enough to be able to concretely see the fruits of our giving through some photos of the women in the workshop with their new machines that our fundraiser bought them. Because of our fund raising they have also been able to move the workshop to a much safer location.
It's pretty great to know that together we've done some real good here! And we'll be doing it all over again next year!
Meanwhile, please remember that Action Kivu is always taking donations. Perhaps you can set up a monthly donation? It can be small! And if you have more time than money, maybe your guild would like to raise some money with a charity quilt? Or perhaps you'd like to throw a bake sale at your church? Any amount helps these women who have been through so much and who are improving their lives with sewing.

I was so happy to be asked to be a part of this tour. I have been reading Elizabeth's blog since I started quilting and it has played no small role in my learning to quilt. I'm certain that this is also the case for a lot of you reading - her tutorials and instructions have always been so well done. I'm so happy to report that her book perfectly reflects her amazing skills!
First off, it starts with an entire section on all of the quilting basics...
All the info you'd ever need to make a quilt, from start to finish - laid out in Elizabeth's clear and informative style. This alone makes the book worthwhile but there are also 12 great patterns included.
Some simple...
...and some a touch more involved.
For all of the patterns Elizabeth gives alternate fabrics suggestions. That's not something you see in most quilt books and it really encourages the reader to think about the patterns in different colors and be inspired to come up with combos of their own.
People have often asked me for quilting book recommendations and I often struggle to name just one as I find some have great inspiration and some have great instructions, but often they don't have both... Until now! The Practical Guide to Patchwork really provides both and is overall a beautiful book. Definitely one to add to your library!

Finished up this quilt top! Happy with the results... now I just need to figure out how I'm going to quilt it.

I've asked my Bee Imaginative members to make me blocks inspired by this weaving and I know I'm going to be thrilled by the results... I sent off the fabric...

The next quilt I'll be working on which is a wedding gift for an old dear friend and his new husband. I've started up a day job again for a few weeks (anyone know any antique experts who wanna be on TV?) so the quilting is slow going these days but I'm excited to dive into this one. Lavender isn't my usual go to color, but it was requested and I always love the challenge of working within someone's requests. As long as I get to be "me" within them of course!

The LA Modern Quilt Guild's first meeting and our 1st anniversary meeting! We are going strong. This past meeting was such a ball and there was just such a sense of community, excitement and fun in the air. Always takes me forever to fall asleep after meetings this great - they are just so inspiring and energizing!
